Merck Halt Trials of HIV Vaccine
Pharmaceutical giant Merck announced on Friday that they will be halting the study of what was thought to be a promising HIV vaccine after initial results indicated no benefit in trial volunteers.
Apparently, Merck has spent ten years developing the drug. Here is a link to the story at the AP: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gLCTk...i-4GeRDajg |

RE: Merck Halt Trials of HIV Vaccine
Wow.. They worked ten years on the drug, and it still didn't benefit people. What were they working on? They must have just partied the whole time.. Pharmaceutical companies should try to produce a drug that works at the very least.

RE: Merck Halt Trials of HIV Vaccine
Yeah, they must have been working on something real nasty..
Why didn't this help anyone if they was working on it for about 10 years? I wonder what they do with this time! |

RE: Merck Halt Trials of HIV Vaccine
Perhaps it did work, but had some negative side effects that they didn't want to discuss.
Or it was halted at the moment due to financial issues. I mean an HIV Vaccine could result in a hefty sum of money to whoever creates it as there is a high demand for it, but at the same time they probably don't want to rush it until they ensure that it works 100% and also that it's safe as well. Because if it results in some dangerous side effects, not only will they get sued, but it will defeat the purpose of the vaccine as the patient will still suffer from another problem. “There is nothing permanent except change.†- Heraclitus of Ephesus |
